Hi, I’m Gretchen. I’m a financial planner and personal finance expert based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I’m focused on helping women working in the tech industry take control of their finances. Technology companies offer generous salaries, options and great benefits. Those great packages come with long hours, in expensive cities, working at jobs that are constantly evolving. My mission is to help women take advantage of the great financial opportunities, while planning around the the reality of working in tech.
I became a financial planner after my husband and I were looking for someone who could evaluate our finances. We were both in high tech, making good money but we weren’t sure we were making all the right financial decisions. (News flash – we weren’t!) Everyone I spoke with either wanted to sell me something or wondered if I had millions of dollars to invest from all of that Google stock I never bought. All we wanted to know was if we were doing the right things with our money. Were we saving enough? Were we investing correctly? Did we need disability insurance? When I couldn’t find that type of planner I decided to become one myself.
What are my qualifications?
I have a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Nebraska and a Certificate in Financial Planning from Santa Clara University. I hold a Series 65 license and passed the Certified Financial Planner exam. I am an associate member of NAPFA, which means I am a fiduciary (see why this matters). I also have lived a life working in technology – I have worked at start ups, lost jobs, gotten sick, gone on disability, had the wrong insurance and bought stock options I shouldn’t have. I survived all of those real life events and can help you navigate or prepare for them.
Reach out with any questions you have. I love to talk about money and how to put it to good use.
